To help Beijing-based enterprises expanding overseas adapt to new ESG regulations worldwide and enhance their competitiveness in overseas markets, CCPIT Beijing and Beijing Chamber of International Commerce held a special lecture titled “Compliance Roadmap for Beijing Enterprises Going Global—A Comparison of ESG Disclosure and Supply Chain Due Diligence Obligations in Key Countries” at the Shijingshan Government Service Center on September 28. The lecture was hosted by the Shijingshan Investment Promotion Center and the Beijing Academy of International Economy and Trade. Guest speakers included Tan Baiping, Professor in the Department of Law, College of Economics and Management, Beijing University of Technology, and Vice President of the Environmental and Resources Law Research Society under the Beijing Law Society; and Yuan Fei, Partner of Tahota (Beijing) Law Firm and Deputy Director of its Finance and Tax Law Center.
Tan Baiping provided an overview of the principal approaches to ESG disclosure in Europe and the US, their legal requirements governing supply chain due diligence, and their implications for Chinese enterprises. He recommended that enterprises expanding overseas align their practices with international rules, strengthen data governance, and adopt appropriate legal measures. Drawing on an ESG due diligence case involving a Hong Kong-listed company, Yuan Fei addressed three key questions: “Where are the pressure points for enterprises expanding overseas?”, “What does due diligence examine?”, and “What should enterprises do now?” He offered practical recommendations on governance structures, end-to-end ESG management across supply chains, data systems and carbon cost accounting, and action checklists tailored to key countries.
