From July 16 to 18, Zhang Jianwei, Secretary of Party Leadership Group of CCPIT Beijing, led a delegation to Shanghai on a study survey. The delegation attended the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), visited CCPIT Shanghai, and conducted research at the Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone and the Shanghai Energy Efficiency Center. The visit focused on learning from Shanghai’s experience and practices in organizing exhibition and convention, providing comprehensive services for enterprises expanding overseas, developing new platforms for institutional opening-up, and addressing green trade barriers.
The 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance was held in Shanghai from July 17 to 20 under the theme “AI Partnership for a Brighter Future.” The event featured an exhibition area of 100,000 square meters, showcasing a total of 4,486 exhibits, including 351 global debuts, and attracted 177 major procurement delegations from around the world. During the event, the delegation toured the exhibition and visited the booths of BCIC member entities. They gained deeper insights into the latest trends in the AI industry and emerging scenarios for technological applications, while learning from Shanghai’s experience in planning and operating world-class technology exhibition along with its market-oriented exhibition model.
At CCPIT Shanghai, the delegation met with Chairman Li Dong and heads of relevant departments and affiliated institutions. CCPIT Shanghai shared its experience and practices in developing the Shanghai Chamber of International Commerce, organizing specialized exhibitions and conventions, establishing overseas service offices, providing international commercial legal services, and promoting coordinated trade promotion across the Yangtze River Delta. CCPIT Beijing introduced its development plans for 2026-2030, its efforts to advance the market-oriented transformation of the MICE industry, and its initiatives to promote investment attraction. It also congratulated CCPIT Shanghai on its 70th anniversary and extended its best wishes for continued success. The two organizations agreed to establish a regular communication mechanism, strengthen information sharing and mutual learning, and work together to support the high-standard opening-up of both Beijing and Shanghai.
The Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone is the world’s first and China’s only “zero-time-difference” business zone. Building on the administrative frameworks of comprehensive bonded zones, customs supervision zones, and restricted port areas, it introduces innovative policies and measures facilitating the cross-border movement of people within a designated closed area. Invited foreign visitors may enter the Zone without a visa, stay for up to 30 days, and apply for an extension when necessary. Positioned as a hub for global business exchanges, high-end exhibitions and conventions, and international training services, the Zone has become one of China’s most open platforms for cross-border engagement. At the Zone, the delegation received a detailed briefing on its planning, development, and supporting service facilities. It also held in-depth discussions with the Zone’s administration on institutional design, strategic positioning, core functions, industrial layout, and dedicated funding policies, gaining valuable insights into advancing Beijing’s opening-up and international cooperation.
As the global transition towards low-carbon development continues to reshape industrial and supply chains, green trade is becoming a new mainstream of international commerce. At the same time, enterprises engaged in cross-border face multiple uncertainties arising from geopolitical frictions, escalating green trade barriers, and differing carbon policies across jurisdictions. At the Shanghai Energy Efficiency Center, the delegation toured the Shanghai Science and Energy Conservation Exhibition Hall and held discussions on green trade and carbon management services. They learned about Shanghai’s pioneering practices in carbon accounting, green certification, mutual recognition of international testing standards, and the development of a public service platform for industrial carbon management. These experiences will provide valuable references for helping Beijing’s importers and exporters strengthen their competitiveness in green trade.
Going forward, CCPIT Beijing will systematically review the outcomes of the study survey and draw on Shanghai’s proven experience in aligning with international economic and trade rules, facilitating the low-carbon, green transformation of industries, supporting enterprises in expanding globally, and promoting market-oriented operations of exhibitions and conventions. It will continue to improve its enterprise service system, elevate investment and trade promotion to higher standards, and contribute to Beijing's high-standard opening-up.
