On the afternoon of June 17, a delegation from CCPIT Beijing, led by Secretary of Party Leadership Group Zhang Jianwei and Chairperson Li Xiangying, visited the Capital University of Economics and Business (CUEB) and met with its Party Secretary Liu Ying and President Wu Weixing. Relevant officials from both sides, together with heads of CUEB’s departments and schools, attended the meeting. The delegation toured the CUEB History Museum, a special exhibition on the university’s development, and the Experimental Center for Interdisciplinary New Liberal Arts Studies in Language Big Data, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the university’s history, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and achievements in advancing internationally oriented New Liberal Arts programs.

At the meeting, Liu Ying extended a warm welcome to the delegation and expressed appreciation for CCPIT Beijing’s longstanding support for CUEB’s think tank development and practical training programs. She noted that, as a key municipally administered university specializing in economics and finance, CUEB has remained committed to its motto, “Advocate Morality, Value Competence, Strategize National Development, and Serve the People.” Building on its core strengths in economics and management, the university has cultivated a large number of professionals for Beijing in fields including public finance, taxation, international economics, and foreign trade.

Liu Ying emphasized that CCPIT Beijing serves as a key link to global business resources, maintains close ties with internationally oriented enterprises, and actively supports the development of Beijing’s “Two Zones”. With complementary resources and shared development goals, CCPIT Beijing and CUEB have a solid foundation for closer cooperation. She proposed three priorities for future collaboration. First, the two sides should further strengthen think tank collaboration by leveraging CUEB’s expertise in economics, trade, and law to jointly conduct research on topics such as the open economy, trade frictions, cross-border compliance, thereby providing intellectual support for the decision-making of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. Second, they should advance the joint cultivation of interdisciplinary professionals with global competencies by making full use of internship and practical training platforms, volunteer services at exhibitions and conventions, and talent development programs for international organizations. These initiatives will nurture practice-oriented professionals who possess expertise in economics, legal knowledge, and foreign language proficiency. Third, she proposed broadening channels for international exchange and collaboration by leveraging CCPIT Beijing’s global economic and trade network to support overseas study visits for faculty and students, facilitate the recruitment of overseas talent, and organize visits for international faculty and students to Beijing-based enterprises and industrial parks, enabling them to share Beijing’s story of opening up with the world.

Zhu Jialiang, Vice Chairman of CCPIT Beijing, highlighted the organization’s achievements in recent years across five key areas: international trade and investment promotion, international commercial legal services, development of the international MICE industry, multilateral and bilateral business cooperation, and applied research by think tanks specializing in international economics and trade. He also reviewed the progress made since the two sides signed a cooperation agreement in April 2023, including jointly organizing of economic and trade lectures, exchanges between experts and think tanks, student internships and practical training programs, and collaboration on major international events.

Zhang Jianwei noted that CUEB’s disciplinary structure, research priorities, and talent cultivation objectives are highly aligned with CCPIT Beijing’s mission of supporting the capital’s open economy. He proposed six priorities for deepening practical cooperation. First, the two sides should jointly develop a high-level think tank on economic and trade, conduct research and assess economic trends, and strengthen policy support. Second, they should empower enterprises in their international development by jointly organizing specialized training on cross-border trade and establishing platforms connecting the government, business, and academia. Third, they should work together to improve the risk prevention and control system for international commercial activities by promoting corporate compliance, enhancing legal awareness, and advancing research on economic and trade disputes. Fourth, they should refine their joint talent cultivation mechanism, collaborate on internship and practical training bases, and nurture interdisciplinary professionals with international expertise tailored to specific needs. Fifth, they should expand channels for international exchange and cooperation, leverage CCPIT Beijing’s global network to support CUEB’s internationalization, and encourage international faculty and students to help tell Beijing’s story of opening up. Sixth, they should integrate resources from major exhibitions and conventions to create more hands-on learning opportunities for students and enrich practice-based education.

Zhang Jianwei emphasized that the visit should serve as a new starting point for cooperation. The two sides should establish a regular communication mechanisms and an annual project list, further strengthen their long-term cooperation framework, and jointly develop a distinctive model of government-university collaboration in support of Beijing's high-standard opening-up, thereby making greater contributions to the capital’s high-quality development.
