From December 16 to 17, the "Connecting South Asia · CBP Medical Devices Supply and Demand Matchmaking Conference" was successfully held in Daxing, Beijing. The event was organized by the Foreign Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce and CCPIT Beijing, and hosted by the Daxing District Bureau of Commerce, the Daxing District Investment Promotion Service Center, the Tiangongyuan Subdistrict Office of Daxing District, the Management Committee of the Daxing Biomedical Industry Base of ZhongGuanCun Science Park, the Specialized and Sophisticated Enterprises Committee of Beijing Chamber of International Commerce (BCIC) (under preparation), and the Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Committee of BCIC.

Wang Deyang, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce, Zhang Jianwei, Secretary of Party Leadership Group of CCPIT Beijing and President of BCIC, and Guo Wenjie, Standing Committee Member of the Daxing District Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor of Daxing District, addressed the conference. Other attendees included Yu Xueyin, Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Chairman of the CPPCC Daxing District Committee; Zhu Jialiang, Vice Chairman of CCPIT Beijing and Vice President & Secretary General of BCIC; Bhakta Bahadur Hamal, President of the Chemical & Medical Suppliers Association of Nepal; Godwin Cheng, Economic Bureau Director (Beijing) of the Persatuan Muafakat One Belt One Road (One Belt One Road Association Malaysia); Du Jiangchun, Secretary General of the Working Committee on Sustainable Development in Health of the SCO TEMP; and commercial representatives from the Embassy of India. The conference brought together over 200 participants, including representatives of a medical device procurement team comprising 30 enterprises from six South Asian countries—such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and India—alongside delegates from nearly 100 Beijing-based enterprises and various international business associations. During the event, contracts were signed for 15 cooperation projects, with on-site procurement reaching USD 14.25 million.

Wang Deyang noted that the medical device industry serves as both the cornerstone and engine of modern healthcare systems, spanning multiple dimensions including life sciences, technological innovation, and economic development. China has become one of the world’s largest markets and exporters of medical devices. Seeing that the South Asian team arrived with clear purchasing needs and strong cooperation intentions, Beijing’s medical device enterprises are expected to seize this opportunity to engage in substantive negotiations, deliver well-matched products, technologies, and services, deepen international collaboration, and achieve win-win outcomes.

Zhang Jianwei emphasized that Beijing’s pharmaceuticals and healthcare industry has surpassed the one-trillion-yuan scale, generating a wealth of innovative achievements and emerging as a powerful global magnet for pharmaceutical resources. As an important partner under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), South Asia’s pharmaceuticals and healthcare market holds vast potential. He expressed the hope that governments, institutions, and enterprises from China and abroad would leverage this conference to better align Beijing’s pharmaceuticals and healthcare products with South Asian market demand, and to promote practical and productive cooperation in areas such as medical device procurement, joint technological R&D, and the commercialization of clinical outcomes. As international trade service agencies that “connect government and enterprises, link domestic and international markets, and facilitate supply-demand matchmaking”, CCPIT Beijing and BCIC will actively build specialized platforms to support enterprises’ global expansion. In coordination with relevant ministerial, municipal, and district authorities, they will establish multi-tiered, normalized service mechanisms to help the capital’s key industries integrate into the BRI and assist biomedical enterprises in expanding into emerging markets.

Guo Wenjie stated that Daxing District would make every effort to support industries connect with international markets. Closely aligned with the district’s “6+5+3” industrial development framework, the conference represents a vivid example of deepened collaboration between Tiangongyuan Subdistrict and Daxing Biomedical Industry Base to enhance services for leading industries and contribute to the BRI.

At the conference, the Tiangongyuan Subdistrict Office of Daxing District, the Management Committee of the Daxing Biomedical Industry Base, and the Chemical & Medical Suppliers Association of Nepal jointly signed an Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation. The agreement paves way for a long-term, stable strategic partnership among the three parties, facilitating the systematic and large-scale entry of high-quality medical devices, cutting-edge technologies, and specialized services into the South Asian market. In addition, on-site signing ceremonies were held for intended procurement cooperation projects between South Asian buyers—including Mediserve International Pvt. Ltd., Deepee Scientific & Chemical Co., Uttarakhand Surgicals, and Hi Tech Instruments—and Chinese enterprises such as Beijing Aeonmed Co., Ltd., Sinovation (Beijing) Medical Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing M&B Electronic Instruments Co., Ltd., and Beijing Hotgen Biotech Co., Ltd., showcasing tangible results of cross-border business matchmaking.

During the promotion session, Li Haitao, Vice General Manager of Beijing Biological Medicine Industry Base Development Co., Ltd., and Godwin Cheng introduced the policies and developments of the biomedical industries of Daxing District and Malaysia. Representatives from five Beijing-based medical enterprises—Haizol, Hotgen Biotech, Sinovation, Aeonmed, and Casibrain Technology—shared a series of frontier innovations, including the global digital supply-chain platform, single-test chemiluminescent immunoassay system, neurosurgical robotics, and cerebral oxygen monitoring devices. Meanwhile, three South Asian entities—Deepee Scientific & Chemical, Uttarakhand Surgicals, and the Chemical & Medical Suppliers Association of Nepal—outlined the medical equipment they intended to buy in China, their scientific instrument purchasing plans, and intentions for cooperation with China in medical equipment, technology, and talent development. Through these exchanges, Chinese and international participants achieved seamless alignment—from platforms to demands, and from solutions to market collaboration.

During the conference, Wang Deyang and Zhu Jialiang led a delegation to visit Ruiqiao Dingke (Beijing) Medical Technology Co., Ltd. and Sinovation, gaining insights into the development of Daxing Biomedical Industry Base. At the Zhongguancun Medical Device Park, the South Asian delegation also conducted on-site visits to potential partners such as Beijing Konted Medical Technology Co., Ltd. and Beijing Yaguo Technology Co., Ltd. Outside the conference venue, 55 enterprises set up exhibition booths to facilitate open international exchanges, while multiple rounds of closed, one-on-one negotiations were organized for businesses with preliminary cooperation intentions.

The conference sought to harness the coordinated efforts of relevant ministerial, municipal, and district authorities to promote the high-quality development of BRI projects and implement the national strategy of high-standard opening-up. Its provision of policy guidance, international cooperation resources, and industry coordination support is expected to further energize the development of Beijing’s pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.
