The “Beijing Pavilion” at the 29th Macau International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) officially opened on October 16. Zheng Xincong, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office under the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR, attended the opening ceremony. Xia Linmao, Executive Vice Mayor of Beijing, and Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance of the MSAR Government, delivered speeches. The ceremony was also attended by representatives from over 50 chambers of commerce and enterprises from Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries, along with representatives from institutions and enterprises in Beijing.
Following the opening ceremony of the “Beijing Pavilion,” Beijing Day activities were held to showcase Beijing municipality and Fengtai District, as well as enterprises in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine and scientific and technological innovation.
The “Beijing Pavilion” was unveiled in Chinese red, modeled after the echo wall of the Temple of Heaven, and featuring Beijing cultural elements, showcasing the unique vitality of the fusion of classical and modern elements, as well as the integration of tradition and openness.
The capital high-quality development exhibition zone showcases Beijing’s commitment to serving and integrating into the new development paradigm through the “Five Key Initiatives”. It highlights the city’s high-quality development achievements in the construction of the “Two Zones” (the National Comprehensive Demonstration Zone for Expanding Opening-up in the Service Sector; the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone) and the “Four Platforms”(the China International Fair for Trade in Services, ZGC Forum, Beijing Culture Forum, Financial Street Forum), all aligned with its strategic positioning as “Four Centers”(the national political center, cultural center, center for international exchanges and center for technological innovation).
Exciting interactive activities are organized at the Beijing Central Axis Zone to showcase 15 cultural heritage sites, particularly the “Beijing Central Axis: A Building Ensemble Exhibiting the Ideal Order of the Chinese Capital” which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List this year, attracting many visitors to take photos and create memories.
The traditional Chinese medicine exhibition zone is full of highlights. Beijing Tong Ren Tang showcases the intangible cultural heritage “Angong Niuhuang Pills production technique”; Chinese medicine experts provide health consultations for the audience and invite them to make herbal sachets and taste the seasonal herbal beverages, promoting the traditional Chinese medicine culture to “go global”.
The exhibition zone of Fengtai District demonstrates the district’s development potential, focusing on its key functional areas such as the Lize Financial Business District, the South Central Axis, and the Fengtai Park of Zhongguancun Science Park. It highlights the development opportunities and industrial advantages of Fengtai District, promotes key cooperation projects within the district, and facilitates external exchanges and collaborations.
In line with Macao’s “1+4” appropriate diversification development strategy, the enterprise exhibition zone features over 11 Beijing enterprises in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine and health, scientific and technological innovation, finance, and cultural tourism. The exhibition aims to showcase and promote unique products and services while leveraging the Macao platform to expand international cooperation channels.
Peking Opera performances are splendid, with professional troupes taking turns to present high-level shows at various time slots. This provides the audience with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture heritage of “Beijing flavor”.
2024 marks the first year for implementing the outcomes of the inaugural Beijing-Macao Cooperation Conference. Beijing has participated in the MIF for 15 years in a row. Leveraging the MIF platform, Beijing will further deepen pragmatic cooperation with Macao in key areas, expand exchanges with Portuguese-speaking countries and other parts of the world, support Macao’s moderately diversified economic development, and promote the high-quality development of Beijing and Macao.
