On October 16, following the issuance of the policies by the Ministry of Commerce and eight other departments aimed at promoting the high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce, CCPIT Beijing and the Beijing Academy of International Economy and Trade held a lecture on “Cross-border E-commerce in the Great Changes of Foreign Trade” as part of the Beijing International Economic and Trade Lecture series. The event aimed to enhance enterprises’ understanding of the status quo and future opportunities in cross-border e-commerce, supporting their international business development. Li Mingtao, Chief Expert of China International Electronic Commerce Center (CIECC) of the Ministry of Commerce, delivered the lecture, which was live-streamed on the WeChat Channel of China Chamber of International Commerce. Over 260 representatives from CCPIT Beijing, relevant chambers of business and associations, and enterprises attended the lecture.

Using case studies, Li Mingtao provided a detailed analysis of the value and high-quality development opportunities in cross-border e-commerce, as well as the establishment of cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot areas and policy innovations under the “dual circulation” development pattern. Participants engaged in an interactive exchange with Li, who emphasized that in the context of profound changes unseen in a century, the global trade pattern is reshaping. He identified cross-border e-commerce as a crucial channel that reaches 60% of the global population, a key driver of enterprise competitiveness in the global market, and a major force behind the digital transformation of trade. China’s cross-border e-commerce is entering a transitional phase characterized by high-quality development. Facing the new situations and challenges posed by the emerging new forms of business, including standalone websites and cross-border live streaming, fierce competition in mature markets, increased pressure on compliance operations, and rising costs, we should capitalize on the opportunities arising from China’s evolving e-commerce landscape in the new stage, including the rapid growth of the cross-border e-commerce live streaming industry, brand development supported by new global e-commerce infrastructure, and the vast market potential under RCEP regional economic integration. The “cross-border e-commerce + industrial agglomeration belt” model, jointly promoted by the government, cross-border e-commerce platforms and enterprises, is designed to integrate e-commerce with industrial clusters, injecting strong impetus into the high-quality development of foreign trade.
