On May 15, Guo Huaigang, Chairman of CCPIT Beijing, led a delegation to visit the South African Embassy in Beijing, China, and held a discussion with South African Ambassador to China Dr. Siyabonga C. Cwele. The meeting was also attended by South African Embassy to China Economic Counsellor Mr. Gary James Smith, CCPIT Beijing Vice Chairwoman Wu Lanlan, and heads from relevant departments of both sides.

Guo Huaigang introduced the promotion of high-quality development through the “Five Key Initiatives.” He pointed out that Beijing and South Africa are highly complementary economically, and that bilateral trade shows positive momentum, demonstrated by a 4.4% increase in bilateral trade volume last year. As an international metropolis with a population of nearly 22 million, Beijing has huge consumption potential. Simultaneously, many Beijing enterprises have a strong desire for “going out” to expand their development space, creating broad prospects for Beijing-South Africa cooperation. As an international trade and investment promotion agency, CCPIT Beijing is committed to fostering economic and trade exchanges between Beijing and the world. Cooperation with Africa is one of CCPIT Beijing’s priorities this year, aiming to promote cooperation in the fields of digital economy, modern agriculture, biomedicine, cultural tourism, and green energy.

Ambassador Siyabonga C. Cwele expressed that South Africa highly values cooperation with China and Beijing, hoping to vigorously promote cooperation in new energy vehicles, cultural tourism, the Internet, science and technology, education, and healthcare. Siyabonga C. Cwele emphasized economic and trade cooperation as one of the Embassy’s priorities, and stated that the Embassy would fully assist in inviting relevant South African government officials, trade and investment promotion agencies, and entrepreneurs to participate in promotion and negotiation activities organized by Beijing economic and trade delegations in South Africa. He also urged South African enterprises in China, especially those in Beijing, to actively participate in activities held by CCPIT Beijing, such as the China Beijing International High-Tech Expo. He expressed expectations to join hands with CCPIT Beijing to deepen trade and investment cooperation and achieve greater outcomes.
