The Promotion for the 16th China-LAC Business Summit was successfully held on the afternoon of July 24. Prior to the event, CCPIT Chairman Ren Hongbin met with ambassadors, counselors, and other representatives from 24 LAC countries. CCPIT Vice Chairman Zhang Shaogang and Fernando Lugris, Head of the delegation of Latin American and Caribbean countries to China and the Uruguayan Ambassador to China, addressed the event. CCPIT Beijing Chairman Guo Huaigang promoted the Summit in front of more than 100 participants from China and LAC.

Ren Hongbin stated that under the guidance of top-level diplomacy, China-LAC relations have entered a new era of equality, mutual benefit, innovation, openness, and public well-being. CCPIT places great emphasis on fostering economic and trade cooperation with LAC, and is keen to strengthen ties with LAC embassies in China to enhance bilateral economic and trade relations. The upcoming 16th Summit in Beijing serves as a flagship platform for practical collaboration between the two sides. Representatives from LAC’s political and business sectors are warmly invited to participate in the Summit.

In his speech, Zhang Shaogang highlighted the significant progress in China-LAC economic and trade cooperation, which has witnessed fruitful outcomes in trade, investment, and contracted projects. Remarkably, China stands as LAC’s second-largest trading partner, while LAC has emerged as the second-largest recipient of China’s overseas investments and the third-largest market for contracted projects. Zhang conveyed his optimism that the 16th Summit would deepen the consensus on economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. He expressed a strong desire to explore the untapped potential of this cooperation and elevate practical collaboration to new heights.

Guo Huaigang enthusiastically endorsed the upcoming 16th Summit in Beijing. As he put it, China and LAC have evolved into vital trade partners and attractive investment destinations for one another. With Beijing serving as the national political, cultural, technology and innovation centers and an international communication hub, it boasts a robust foundation to drive the high-quality development of China-LAC relations. Furthermore, Beijing is well-positioned to play a leading role in advancing comprehensive and practical cooperation between the two sides.

Fernando Lugris delivered a speech representing LAC diplomats. He acknowledged Beijing’s efforts in enhancing its business environment and creating fresh investment and trade prospects. He also believes that these efforts are advantageous for LAC companies seeking to expand their presence in China. Notably, the two sides have engaged in practical cooperation across multiple sectors, including energy, agriculture, and service, with vast untapped potential for further collaboration. Fernando pledged that LAC embassies are fully committed to promoting the 16th Summit in front of domestic audiences, and that they will actively organize participation in meetings and exhibitions of the Summit. Leveraging the diversity of LAC, the embassies aim to constantly explore new avenues of economic and trade cooperation with China.

During the event, a representative from Power Construction Corporation of China spoke on behalf of Chinese enterprises, sharing their relevant experience and achievements in working with LAC partners.

The China-LAC Business Summit was initiated and founded by CCPIT in 2007. It is China’s first mechanism-based platform for promoting economic and trade cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean region. In 2015, it became a sub-forum under the framework of the China-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) Forum. The summit is held alternately in China and Latin American countries. So far, fifteen summits have been successfully held in China, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Uruguay, Panama, and Ecuador.

The 16th China-LAC Business Summit will be held from November 2 to 3, organized by CCPIT and Beijing Municipal People’s Government, and hosted by CCPIT Beijing and China Chamber of International Commerce. Key events include the opening ceremony, plenary session, parallel sessions, welcome banquet, and flag handover ceremony. Other events are the China-LAC Roundtable for Trade Promotion Institutions, Think Tank Cooperation Forum, Business Matchmaking, Trade and Investment Exhibition, visits and inspections, and more. Discussions at the Summit will focus on the digital economy, agricultural trade, cultural tourism, and green economy. The Summit will serve as a communication platform for governments, associations, chambers of commerce, and enterprises from both sides.
