2023-6-7 10:59:40

On June 5, 2023, BAIC FOTON celebrated a significant milestone with a ceremony marking the sale of its 2,500th mini truck in Argentina. The event also commemorated the production of the 1,000th locally assembled vehicle at the truck production plant located in the city of Tres de Febrero, in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. The event was attended by Liu Wei, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and a delegation from CCPIT Beijing. Diego Valenzuela, mayor of Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires Province, was also present, along with the head of the BAIC Group and the executive of an Argentine company that partners with BAIC FOTON.

In the presence of all parties, BAIC FOTON commemorated the sale of its 2,500th mini truck in Argentina, the assembly of its 1,000th vehicle, and the production of its first mini truck that meets Argentina’s latest ESC mandatory regulations, which signifies the successful completion of the first stage of BAIC FOTON’s localization strategy in Argentina. BAIC FOTON has undergone a remarkable transformation since 2016, shifting from small-scale vehicle exports to Argentina to large-scale local assembly production. In partnership with a local company in Argentina, BAIC FOTON has invested in the core industrial chain. By combining technology and capital, they were able to build a competitive edge with a closed-loop in local assembly, sales, and service industries. Meanwhile, through adopting a strategy of localized production and gradually replacing the import of vehicles, BAIC FOTON aims to seize the opportunity and establish a stronger presence in the local market. To date, Foton has sold 2,500 trucks in total. This accomplishment not only marks mutually beneficial development for both parties but also injects vitality into the growth of Argentina’s automobile industry.

To meet the strong market demand, BAIC FOTON, in collaboration with its local partner, plans to expand its production model from mini to light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, as well as other truck products. The locally manufactured products in Argentina will meet the requirements of BAIC FOTON’s global smart manufacturing system and technical quality control standards, and will also feature Foton’s global leading power chain “Super Power Train”, which is also used in Foton Cummins, Foton ZF, etc. This move will effectively address common pain points in terms of quality, safety, and pricing in the local automobile industry. Moreover, it will also provide added benefits of comfort and cost-effective performance, delivering the most valuable commercial vehicle solutions to the users. In addition, BAIC FOTON is set to commence construction of its second assembly plant in the near future. The plant will cover an area of approximately 64,000 square meters and have a capacity of producing 5,000 units per year upon completion. This expansion will create more job opportunities for the local community.

CCPIT Beijing’s delegation has carried out in a series of economic and trade activities in Argentina and Chile. As part of these efforts, CCPIT Beijing and BAIC FOTON, a member of the delegation, have jointly planned this event, which aims to promote the export of commercial vehicles from Beijing’s top automobile manufacturing enterprises to Argentina and foster cooperation in the field of new energy transportation between the two sides.
