2023 Mid-year Session of the Meeting of International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing Successfully Held

Together for a better future of Beijing. The 2023 Mid-year Session of the Meeting of International Business Leaders Advisory Council for the Mayor of Beijing (IBLAC) was successfully held in the capital city on May 26. Sima Hong, Vice Mayor of Beijing, talked face-to-face with the Asia-Pacific/China heads of 31 council members, aiming to gather diverse opinions and suggestions. The session was organized by CCPIT Beijing, serving as the Secretariat of the IBLAC. Over 110 delegates attended the meeting, including leaders of member organizations within the joint working group of the IBLAC (e.g. Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau, Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, and Beijing Municipal Bureau of Local Financial Regulation and Supervision), as well as more than 10 relevant departments.

 

The session introduced the latest developments and benefits of Beijing’s ongoing endeavors to attract foreign investment. Participants were briefed on the progress made in implementing the recommendations put forth by the 15th IBLAC meeting. Additionally, the session further enhanced the working mechanism of the IBLAC.

Sima Hong, representing the Beijing Municipal Government, expressed her gratitude to the council members for their enduring contributions to the socioeconomic progress of the capital city. She noted that the Meeting of International Business Leaders Advisory Council, as one of China’s earliest and highest-level international policy consulting platforms, consistently shares valuable international experience. It stands as an important stage for deepening international cooperation and showcasing Beijing’s image to the world. Sima Hong assured the council members that Beijing would fully incorporate their professional input, translating their insights into concrete measures that promote the city’s development. Furthermore, she encouraged the council members to leverage Beijing’s strengths as a hub of high-end resources, finance, talent, public facilities and services. She urged them to deepen their presence in the city, capitalizing on the opportunities stemming from the construction of the National Comprehensive Demonstration Zone for Further Opening Up the Service Sector and the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the establishment of Beijing as an international center for technology and innovation, a leading force in the digital economy, and an international consumption hub, as well as the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, among other initiatives. Sima Hong highlighted Beijing’s vigorous efforts in administrative streamlining, power delegation, and government service improvement, in a bid to create a first-class business environment that offers foreign enterprises convenient and efficient legal and ancillary services, facilitating a seamless experience for living and working in Beijing. She believes that inclusive and accessible services will prompt all stakeholders to collaboratively contribute to the city’s development. Additionally, Sima Hong urged the Secretariat of the IBLAC to constantly improve the implementation and feedback mechanism for recommendations, enhance interactive communication at various levels, diversify day-to-day services, and boost functionality and efficiency. These measures will foster effective communication, practical services, and extensive collaboration between the Secretariat and the council members.

Delegates from council members recognized the significance of the IBLAC and brainstormed on various topics, including urban construction, technological innovation, financial openness, digital intelligence, green and low-carbon development, as well as sustainable development. The participating enterprises expressed their confidence in their growth within China and their commitment to expanding investments in Beijing. Notably, they are willing to stay in close touch through the IBLAC, sharing opportunities and jointly creating a brighter future.
