To implement the central government’s guidelines for the development of China-Latin America relations and host the 16th China-LAC Business Summit in Beijing at a higher level, Guo Huaigang, chairman of CCPIT Beijing, led a delegation to the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) on the afternoon of February 7. The two sides held intensive discussions regarding the preparation of the Submit.
Chai Yu, general director of ILAS, provided an overview of ILAS’s work and partnerships with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region (LAC). She then introduced projects and achievements serving the national strategy for the LAC and the “Belt and Road” Initiative, and stated that ILAS had played an active role in planning the previous two Summits and hosting the China-CELAC Forum. Chai also offered to establish a long-term as well as stable partnership with CCPIT Beijing and cooperate on aligning ILAS’s research on the LAC with the actual needs of businesses. Heads and researchers from ILAS Regional Cooperation Office offered constructive insights on the preparations for the upcoming Summit.
Guo Huaigang expressed sincere appreciation for ILAS’s expertise of regional studies, and expressed his wish to establish a cooperative mechanism to maximize ILAS’s role as a top-tier think tank. He believed that the two sides would work together again on planing activities and designing potential outcomes, and leverage each other’s strengths to launch joint programs for personnel training and enterprise research. As this is the first time for the China-LAC Business Summit to be held in Beijing, the five initiatives should be incorporated into the new development agenda to showcase the city’s strengths and innovation. And cooperation in areas such as new infrastructure, digital economy, and green transformation should be conducted among focus on traditional cooperation fields between China and the LAC in order to present the share of Beijing for advancing practical cooperation between China and the LAC to a higher level.
