The Forum on Investment Opportunities in Services Sectors in Malaysia, co-hosted by CCPIT Beijing and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) as one of the country-specific theme events during the 2022 China International Fair for Trade in Services, was held at the China National Convention Center on September 3, 2022. Raja Dato’ Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, Ambassador of Malaysia to China, addressed at the forum. Guo Huaigang, Chairman of CCPIT Beijing, and Datuk Arham Abdul Rahman, CEO of MIDA, delivered keynote speeches. The forum was also attended by Minister (Economic Affairs) of the Embassy of Malaysia in Beijing See Chee Kong, Minister Counsellor (Trade) Mazlan Harun, Investment Counsellor and Director of the Beijing Office of MIDA Wong Tiang Sing, Vice Chairwoman of CCPIT Beijing Wu Lanlan and more than 50 representatives from over 20 Chinese enterprises from fields including medical service, data centers, and logistics. Guo Huaigang also communicated with Ambassador Nushirwan in advance of the forum.
In his keynote speech, Ambassador Nushirwan pointed out that Malaysia and China enjoyed fruitful relationships in various fields, and that leading to the prosperous trade contributing to the bright future of investing in Malaysia. He noted that Malaysia agreed with the Chinese government on the best way to stand out in global competition being creating mutually beneficial and sustainable growth through trade and investment under enhanced bilateral cooperation. He also stressed that the upcoming 12th Malaysia Plan and the New Industrial Master Plan would welcome high-tech, high value-added, knowledge-intensive and capital-intensive high-quality investment projects, especially digital investment projects, saying that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, MIDA and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation would facilitate the investment and business by Chinese enterprises in Malaysia.
Guo Huaigang said in his keynote speech that Malaysia, as one of the most economically dynamic and promising members of ASEAN, has attracted investment from enterprises around the world, including China. He stressed the close ties between China and Malaysia and the remarkable achievements in bilateral economic and trade cooperation, saying that China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 13 years in a row and the largest foreign investor in Malaysia’s manufacturing sector, while Malaysia being the ideal investment choice among the ASEAN countries for enterprises in Beijing. He believed that this forum will help Chinese enterprises know more about Malaysia’s preferential investment policies and promote the bilateral economic and trade cooperation under the China-ASEAN and RCEP frameworks, and suggested the entrepreneurs present at the forum seize opportunities and choose the investment fields suitable for themselves in light of their own conditions. Guo Huaigang also reaffirmed that CCPIT Beijing will actively play its role as a bridge by building a platform for matchmaking between Chinese and Malaysian enterprises, in an effort to give rise to the high-quality development of the bilateral cooperation in trade and investment.
Datuk Arham Abdul Rahman and Wong Tiang Sing gave presentations on the overall picture of investments for Chinese enterprises in Malaysia, the status quo of service sectors in Malaysia, the investment environment in Malaysia and relevant policies, and specific industries that attract and encourage Chinese investment. Liu Bin, General Manager of Asia-Pacific International Business of JD.com, Inc., shared successful examples and relevant experience of his company’s investment in Malaysia.
