On the afternoon of Apr. 21st, the Organizing Committee of 18th China Beijing International High-tech Expo (CHITEC) held a meeting to thrash out the preparatory tasks. The meeting was chaired by Cheng Hong, Vice Chairman of CHITEC Organizing Committee and Vice Mayor of Beijing. Wang Anshun, Chairman of CHITEC Organizing Committee and Mayor of Beijing, addressed the meeting. Participants included Li Wei, Secretary General of Beijing Municipal Government, Xu Jianpei, Under Secretary General of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Chen Zhengrong, Under Secretary General of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), as well as the heads of host ministries/commissions and member entities of the Organizing Committee.
At the meeting, Wang Anshun asserted that with the guidance and support of MOST, CCPIT, the State Intellectual Property Office and other central authorities concerned, CHITEC, through the past 17 successful sessions, had comprehensively manifested China’s hi-tech industry developments, vigorously promoted global engagement and greatly contributed to technical innovation.
Technical innovation, as he put it, has become a strategic support for the enhancement of social productive forces and overall national strength since China’s economic development enters into a “new normal”. Beijing, with a global mindset, has prioritized technical innovation in the overall urban planning and called for city-wide commitment in its constant stride towards a national technical innovation center. Aside from being a showcase of technical achievements and a platform for industrial cooperation, CHITEC is a key enabler for China’s innovation-driven development strategy and an incubator of the national technical innovation center.
He then put forward “three musts” for CHITEC preparation: First, to be theme-oriented and innovative. In the run-up to a diversified event with keynote reports, exhibitions, promotions, fairs, forums and conferences rolled in one, the Organizing Committee must conduct in-depth analysis on national strategies and plans including the innovation-driven development, “One Belt and One Road” and coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei cluster, strive to strengthen cooperation on industrial projects, share new ideas on technical advancement and innovation, swell the massive wave of entrepreneurship and innovation, and combine forces for industrial progress. Second, to make good use of resources and build a shining brand. The Organizing Committee must make the most of the capital city’s abundant technology resources and encourage the participation of central enterprises, private sector and colleges so as to build an inclusive service platform, demonstrate technology and provide intellectual support for entities concerned, and establish CHITEC as a pacesetter in industrial development and an eye-catching placard of Beijing. Third, to create an arena for cooperation. Eyeing an international event, the Organizing Committee must continue to work together with various autonomous regions, provinces and municipalities, facilitate resource mobility and industrial alignment of the said cluster, and proactively promote trans-regional, inter-disciplinary, cross-ownership strategic cooperation.
Last but not least, he stressed that various entities must enhance the esprit de corps and sense of responsibility for the sake of safe and smooth running of a conservation-minded event.
The 18th CHITEC will be held in Beijing on May 13-17th, with the CPPCC Auditorium as the main convention center, and the China International Exhibition Center (Old Center) as the main exhibition area. Focused on the theme of “Guiding technical innovation and spurring industrial development”, it will stage four comprehensive activities, 11 exhibitions, seven forums and eight promotions/fairs. Currently, everything seems ready for the participation of five international organizations, over 30 government and trade delegations from 18 foreign countries and regions, 20-odd autonomous regional, provincial and municipal groups as well as nearly 1,600 enterprises at home and abroad.
