Description:
1. Background: In 2017, the municipal government described the general guidelines for Wuwei’s socioeconomic development as follows: Put ecology first and follow the green development path, striving to build a beautiful, harmonious and rich city famous for cultural tourism and attractive industries. Specifically, “economic development should be reconciled with environmental stewardship, and prevention and control of desertification with desert tourism and related industries”. Taking a page from the playbook of Shiyang River basin, Shiyang River National Wetland Park in Minqin County, Dongshawo in Liangzhou District as well as vineyards and industrial sand control bases are well placed to offer desert tourism services including the exhibition of environmental stewardship achievements and tourist experience.
2. Content: The project includes the ancient battleground film base in desert, horse culture-themed theatre, sand sculpture theme park, ATV mud racing tracks, RV campground, aircraft base and desert surfing camp. It integrates desert sightseeing, camping, hiking, vintage sampling and desertification control experience.
3. Estimated investment and returns: With a total investment of RMB 1.8 billion, the project will rake in RMB 200 million each year.
