Description:
1. Development and applications of titanium alloys
The rise of titanium can be traced back to the 1950s. Featuring, among others, low density, high specific strength and strong corrosion resistance, the metal has long served as a backbone of the aviation industry. In recent years, titanium, together with titanium alloys, has also found application for petroleum, sports, biopharmaceutical, chemical and metallurgical sectors.
Corrosion-resistant, non-magnetic and strong, the alloys are extensively used for shipbuilding.
Biocompatible, corrosion-resistant, lightweight, nontoxic and strong, they are an ideal option for medical implants as well.
Titanium’s foray into the sports sector is marked by the worldwide use of titanium golf club heads and titanium-alloy golf hitting panels.
Furthermore, the alloys have made their way to bicycles, motorboats, softball bats, hockey sticks, tennis rackets, horse gears, sprint spikes, mountaineering tools, snowboards, roller skates, ice skate blades and fishing tackle.
2. Development of new titanium alloy
Developed in the US in 1954, TC4 is the first titanium alloy to be widely used, thanks to its outstanding biocompatibility, plasticity, strength, toughness, weldability, and corrosion & heat resistance. TC4 products are, however, costly, due to insufficient heat-treatability and processability of the alloy. The low price-performance ratio of TC4 hastens the birth of a new alloy, one that is cost-effective, mechanically remarkable, cold- & hot-processable, easy to cut, forge and stamp, and, most importantly, developed on our own. It can greatly increase the rate and service life of finished products.
3. Applications and prospects of JY6111
Such reliability and stability enables the new alloy, JY6111, to secure its place in highly durable, lightweight components. For instance, JY6111-made golf clubs with thinner hitting panels and larger-volume heads can not only hit the ball further and more accurately, but also contribute to a pleasing feel and sound.
