The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) held a press conference on China's participation in the Expo 2020 Dubai UAE on September 16. Zhang Shenfeng, Commissioner General of the China Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai and Vice Chairman of the CCPIT, said at the press conference that China has been ready for the Expo 2020 Dubai and the China Pavilion will be unveiled on October 1 as scheduled.
The Expo 2020 Dubai will be the first world expo after the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as the first one held in the Middle East. With the theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, this expo aims to pull together the global strength and build partnerships across the world for a better future. A total of 192 countries have confirmed their participation in this expo that is expected to attract 25 million visitors.
Zhang Shenfeng said that the China Pavilion is one of the largest pavilions at the Expo 2020 Dubai, and its theme “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind – Innovation and Opportunity” closely follow the theme of the Expo 2020 Dubai, integrates the global focus on innovation and opportunities, communication and cooperation, and on development and sustainability, highlights the development opportunities and cooperation potential brought by the Belt and Road Initiative to the countries along the Belt and Road, and fully demonstrates China’s proposal to promote common development and build a community with a shared future for mankind. He also pointed out that China will participate in the expo in a high-quality manner to share with the world China's development philosophy and achievements, promote the development of China-Arab comprehensive strategic partnership, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with other countries, and facilitate the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
He said that the China Pavilion is basically ready for inauguration and it is now at the final stage of equipment debugging. The operation teams have arrived in Dubai for the trial operation. The China Pavilion will be unveiled to the public on October 1 at the opening ceremony.
This China Pavilion has four highlights.
First, the design of the China Pavilion signals a profound message. The China Pavilion, named “Light of China” and built in the shape of a Chinese lantern, symbolizes reunion and brightness, and gathering and communication by combining traditional Chinese elements with modern architectural concepts and technologies. The main building of the China Pavilion adopts the traditional Chinese architectural elements such as Dougong (interlocking wooden brackets) and Chinese flower panes, looking like a magnificent lantern from a distance.
Second, the exposition focuses on the theme of the Expo 2020 Dubai. The China Pavilion will showcase China’s development and achievements in aerospace exploration, information technology, modern transportation, artificial intelligence and smart life from the perspectives of “common dream”, “common earth”, “common home” and “common future”.
Third, supporting activities of different forms are arranged. The China Pavilion will hold a series of key activities such as the opening ceremony on October 1, 2021, China National Pavilion Day on January 10, 2022, and the promotion of the Chinese culture on Chinese New Year 2022. A total of 26 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities including Beijing and Jiangsu, as well as more than 40 domestic leading enterprises such as SAIC Motor, China National Petroleum Corporation, and Shanghai Electric Group, will organize various exhibitions, economic and trade forums, and cultural activities and performances both online and offline. This expo ranks first among those held overseas in terms of the number of engaged provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and large-scale enterprises.
Forth, the China Pavilion can be visited both online and offline. The China Pavilion innovates its ways of exhibition that enable the visitors to visit it online through “China Pavilion on the Cloud”. The official website of the China Pavilion and the official accounts of various platforms will broadcast the live activities to make the China Pavilion reach more audience with its charm.
Zhang Shenfeng said that only by adhering to the principle of win-win cooperation, exchanges and mutual learning can we achieve common prosperity. China will promote multi-level and multi-field exchanges and cooperation among countries at this expo to build consensus and boost confidence; showcase China's latest developments in the field of scientific and technological innovation and pursue cooperation at the cutting edge such as digital economy and artificial intelligence, to inject new momentum into the global economy; stimulate enterprises'enthusiasm for international cooperation and enhance their soft power, to help them find more cooperation opportunities; showcase the Chinese culture, promote mutual learning in culture and strengthen people-to-people bond between China and other countries, to present to the world a true, three-dimensional and comprehensive China.

The Expo 2020 Dubai UAE, originally scheduled from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021, has been be postponed to be held from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 due to the impact of COVID-19, but keeps its original name as “Expo 2020 Dubai UAE”. CCPIT, as the competent department responsible for China's engagement in the Bureau of International Expositions and World Expos, has organized China's participation in overseas world expos for 16 consecutive times since 1982.
