China will host the second World Science and Technology Development Forum in Beijing from Nov 8 to 9 to facilitate mutual trust and cooperation and promote open, ethical and inclusive practices in scientific research, an official said on Friday.
The forum has been organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Experts from 16 countries and over 30 representatives from international organizations, universities and tech companies are scheduled to attend the forum.
Liu Xingping, director general of CAST's Department of Academic and Societies Affairs and head of CAST's Office for Cooperation with Enterprises, said the forum aims to serve as a platform for openness and mutual trust to enhance global scientific and technological cooperation.
"We should let trust and openness be our consensus, solidarity and cooperation be our strength, and jointly build an interconnected and collaborative global scientific community," he said.
This year's forum will focus on: the relationship of science and technology with human civilization; policies for science and innovation; the digital economy and inclusive development; open science and the responsibilities of the global scientific communities; research ethics and culture, Liu said.
The forum will also publish 10 major scientific questions that need to be answered for sustainable development. The questions target 17 sustainable development goals listed by the United Nations that focus on public health, safety and resources management, Liu said.
CAST will also host the fifth China Science Fiction Convention 2020 from Nov 1 to 2 in Beijing, the 2020 Green Development Innovation Conference from Nov 5 to 7 in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, and the 2020 World Conference on Science Literacy in December.
