2018-11-13 13:34:36

On Nov. 8th, 2018 (local time), China (Kenya) Industrial Capacity Cooperation Exposition held a press briefing at Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest) in Nairobi. Guo Ce, Economic and Commercial Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, addressed the briefing together with delegates of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Kenya, of KenInvest, of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, and Chair of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Chinese media in Kenya, including Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, CRI and China Daily, attended with over 20 local mainstream agencies.

At the briefing, Miao Ligang, Manager of CIEC Overseas Exhibition Co., Ltd., talked about the background and preparation of the Expo on behalf of the host. As he put it, the Expo, co-sponsored by CCPIT, China-Africa Development Fund, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, and KenInvest, will be held at Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi on Nov. 14th-17th, 2018. A total of 81 Chinese exhibitors will turn the spotlight on integrated equipment, engineering machinery, advanced technology, light industry, home appliances, and premium products of domestic manufacturers. While tapping into local markets, they will cater to the African needs for agricultural modernization and further industrialization. Such cooperation will be based on two-way choice, complementarity and mutual benefits. Supporting events of the Expo include the China-Kenya Industrial Capacity Cooperation Forum & Matchmaking. These events, like the Expo itself, will adhere to “pragmatism, efficiency, communication and improvement”.

Guo Ce pointed out that China has made remarkable achievements through 40 years of reform and opening-up, and is willing to share its proven experience with Kenya and other African countries via business, economic and financial cooperation. When it comes to the 1st China International Import Expo (CIIE), he noted that the President-led Kenyan delegation went down well. A larger amount of quality produce from Kenya is thus expected to hit the Chinese market. He also hoped that the Kenyan government could improve the business environment to draw more Chinese investors.

Kenyan guests acknowledged the contributions of Chinese enterprises to infrastructure construction, industrialization and employment. They hope that local companies can engage with their Chinese peers at the well-received Expo for closer cooperation in finance, trade, and industrial capacity upgrading, so that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four Action Plan can be fulfilled as soon as possible.
