On the morning of May 29, the opening ceremony of the 14th China Beijing International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo (ICCIE 2019) took place at Capital Hotel. ICCIE 2019 is the cultural session of the China International Fair for Trade in Services 2019, and the opening ceremony doubled as the 2019 Chinese Cultural Industry Development Forum. DU Feijin, Vice President of the 14th ICCIE Organizing Committee, member of the Standing Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, and WANG Chunfa, Director of the National Museum of China each delivered an address to the event. More than 500 people including officials from relevant departments of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Radio and Television Administration (sponsors of ICCIE 2019), delegates of international organizations and domestic and overseas groups, experts and scholars from the cultural and creative industry, as well as people from relevant industries attended the event.
In his address, DU Feijin said that ICCIE was founded in 2006 and had been successfully held for 13 editions to date; the event had now become an important platform for enhancing cultural confidence at home and displaying the national image to the external world. It had made a significant mark in the history of China’s cultural industry, fully demonstrating the leading and exemplary role of the national cultural center.
He added that, with the full support of the sponsors and through overall coordination, the Beijing Municipal Government and the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee had decided to include the ICCIE into the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS); as an integral part of the cultural session of the CIFTIS, ICCIE was rescheduled from October to May, with a view to further promoting the exchange of resources, reciprocal brand promotion and integration of activities between the ICCIE and the CIFTIS. Facing the new situation and tasks, the ICCIE on the theme of “Leading High-quality Development of Cultural Industry, Boosting Construction of National Cultural Center” will display the new achievements, new forms and new models as a result of the reform of the national cultural system and the development of the cultural industry, as well as the achievements in the construction of the national cultural center. Besides, the 16 districts of Beijing and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area all participated in the event, all geared up to make a strong impression on the visitors.
DU Feijin emphasized that the ICCIE would focus on integration and innovation and endeavor to promote the high-quality development of the cultural industry; for more than a decade, Beijing’s cultural industry had maintained rapid growth, and the city had been ranked the top among the provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country in terms of the proportion of added value in the regional GDP. As the cultural system reform continued, the cultural industry had also entered a critical period of transformation in which the traditional drivers are to be replaced by new ones. We shall seize the historic opportunities for development, build on “culture+”, promote the high-quality development of the cultural industries, and create a “new engine” to propel Beijing’s economic transformation and development, so as to constantly meet our people’s new expectations for cultural life.
WANG Chunfa said in his address that the ICCIE had been successfully held for 13 editions, which witnessed the extraordinary process of China’s cultural and creative industry from its birth to what it is today. Its influence was continuously increasing and its brand effect was getting increasingly prominent. In the new era when the cultural industry enjoys great prosperity and development, we should continue to deepen the supply-side structural reform of the cultural and creative industry, apply new media and new technologies to cultural and creative development activities, innovate communication methods, disseminate the Chinese culture through creative thinking and in more easily accepted forms, exploit the rich cultural resources, persist in leading the cultural trend with good virtues, enrich the ideological and cultural content of the cultural and creative industry, and fully demonstrate the unique appeal of the Chinese culture. Besides, we should promote the creative transformation and innovative development of China’s excellent traditional culture, inherit the revolutionary culture and gene, develop and carry on the advanced socialist culture, build the “Chinese spirit, Chinese values and Chinese strength”, and constantly guide and serve the people with high-quality products.
