On the morning of 7th August, the 11th Conference on ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship was launched in Cambodia. The conference is hosted by Cambodia-China Friendship Association. ZHANG Xiaodong, President of Zhongguancun the Belt and Road Industrial Promotion Association (ZBRA), sent out the invitations for international talents in the forum. “We hope to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN friendship organizations, especially through young people’s participation in the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative.”
The theme of this conference is “Strengthening ASEAN-China People-to-People Friendship for Safeguarding Peace and Cooperation”. All attendees from China and ASEAN countries attached focus on the B&R Initiative, and had a heated discussion on the opportunities for improving the Initiative through civil efforts, in the field of infrastructure construction, scientific and technological innovation cooperation, tourism and culture development, and youth communication.
ZHANG brought out a “Cirrus” innovative talent exchange project. Zhongguancun, the base of 25,000 technological innovation-oriented enterprises, have 65 unicorns (startup companies valued at over $1 billion) out of 131 ones nationwide in 2016. “High-tech enterprises have been actively developing markets in the B&R countries. When implementing the “going global” strategy, the enterprises are increasingly aware of the need for international talents, who know local culture well and own local resources.” He said.
“Cirrus” is targeted for such need. By recruiting outstanding international students as interns and training them in Zhongguancun enterprises, the plan let the seeds of China’s scientific and technological innovation to grow into vines spreading along B&R countries, where the markets will thus be supported by those talents.
ASEAN is always an active supporter of the B&R Initiative, a critical direction and region for its further construction, and also the focal point for ZBRA to develop “Cirrus”. ZHANG introduced that this plan was not only a common internship joint, but also an opportunity for international students to bring back to their own countries the scientific and technological innovation and development learnt in China. The plan also provides support for such projects as inspection and training, accurate appointment and business incubation. In addition, excellent intern students can get financial support for business startup.
“Cirrus” received warm responses from the attendees. Do Tien Sam, expert on Sinology in Vietnam, said the Initiative was an appeal not only for economic development, but for the link of common aspiration of the people. Those participants in this plan serve as a bridge to deepen civilian communication.
It is introduced that over 2,000 foreign students have participated in “Cirrus”, which put forward that in the next five years, over 100 enterprises will benefit from the development of the B&R Initiative through the plan. More enterprises will be willing to be involved. Over 1000 foreign students are proposed to create value for the Initiatives, driving more talents to participate; more than 10,000 students will directly participate in the plan, benefiting B&R countries and regions.
