The Organizing Committee Meeting of the 19th CHITEC Held in Beijing

The Organizing Committee Meeting of the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) was held on the afternoon of May 5. Wang Anshun, the mayor of Beijing and chairman of the CHITEC Organizing Committee, delivered a speech at the event, and Cheng Hong, the vice mayor of Beijing and vice chairman of the CHITEC Organizing Committee, presided over the meeting. Alongside with them, Liao Tao, the deputy director of the State Intellectual Property Office, Wang Jinzhen, the vice director of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Li Wei, the secretary general of Beijing Municipal Government, Cui Yuting, Deputy Director General of the Department of Innovation and Development under the Ministry of Science and Technology and other leaders attended the event, joined by heads of each member of the CHITEC Organizing Committee.

At the meeting, Xiong Jiuling, the Executive Deputy Secretary General of the CHITEC Organizing Committee and Chairperson of the CCPIT Beijing Sub-council, gave a report on the general planning and preparatory work of this year’s CHITEC, and leaders from ministries and commissions that jointly hosted the event also presented their opinions and suggestions.

Mr. Wang Anshun stressed that the CHITEC has been held successfully for 18 years under the guidance and support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, State Intellectual Property Office, CCPIT and other central departments concerned, and now becomes a premier event for the tech sector, making great contributions to promoting the construction of the national capital as an innovation centre for science and technology. He also put forward four requirements for the preparatory work of the 19th CHITEC: the first is to serve the whole country, i.e. to build an integrated, full-chain service platform in place for the rest of China as well as the central government departments to showcase the achievements of our country’s hi-tech industrial development and share new concepts and ideas of technological innovation, promoting the flow and transformation of scientific and technological resources. The second is to boost the regional cooperation, i.e. to integrate technological innovation resources of Jing-Jin-Ji region, comprehensively unscramble the strategy of coordinated development of Jing-Jin-Ji region, vigorously promote the results of joint efforts and industrial cooperation and deeply discuss and exchange the innovation focus, key points and difficulties; to devote great efforts to collaborative innovation with other provinces, regions and cities, facilitate the opening and sharing of technological resources and results, and serve the development of regions such as the Belt and Road and Yangtze River Economic Zone. The third is to support Beijing’s development, i.e. to convert the strength of the national capital in technological resources into industrial advantage, contributing to the project signing; to showcase the technological results of sustainable development, push their transformation and application, and leverage scientific and technical means to address urban development challenges. The fourth is to improve the service level, i.e. to focus on the way of holding the CHITEC in an innovative manner, leverage the market mechanism, bring in social forces, and bring new life to the CHITEC to create it a service brand of Beijing; to enhance the propaganda, allowing more groups to know about, join and benefit from the CHITEC. Last but not least important, Wang stated that safety must come first to ensure the CHITEC is held in a safe and orderly way.
