On Jan. 21, 2008, Deputy Chairman NI Yuegang had a talk on holding the 2008 China-Chile Enterprises Contest with representative of Mayor of San Diego and Director of Commerce Bureau of San Diego.
Mayor of San Diego visited China at the beginning of November 2007, and concluded friendly cities relationships with Beijing and Hefei respectively. On November 6, Mayor suggested to jointly hold the “2008 China-Chile Enterprises Contest” with Beijing and Hefei at the talk with Chairwoman XIONG Jiuling to implement the friendly cities agreements. This suggestion was supported by Mayor WANG Qishan and Acting Mayor GUO Jinlong of Beijing; this activity was listed into the friendly city communication projects in 2008.
NI extended the welcome to Chilean guests, briefly reviewed the history and status quo of friend contacts between Beijing and San Diego and between two counties, and stated that the CCPIT Beijing would like to do some practice work for two cities to carry out friend cities communications.
Director appreciated NI for the reception. He introduced the Chilean side had started the preparation work for the contest after Mayor returned back; a special work commission had been set up and the Commerce Bureau of San Diego was required to organize the contest. Chilean enterprises and related institutions also paid high attention to the contest. A working framework had been formed, and related officials had made several exchanges. He hoped that this visit to the CCPIT Beijing and other related Chinese institutions would receive some opinions and put main plans into practice in order to hold the activity before August 2008.
Deputy Chairman NI stated that the CCPIT Beijing had rich experience in promoting the economic and trading communications; the CCPIT Beijing knew the importance of the contest activity and will set up a working team consisting of the members of its Investment and Trade Development and its International Contact Department to successfully complete this job within the framework of the Beijing’s friendly city communication work and with the guidance of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality.
Both sides also discussed about the details of the plan. According to the CCPIT Beijing’s suggestions, the contest will be included into the 11th CHITEC. Chinese and Spanish publicity websites will be available. The contest is to be launched at the same time in San Diego, Beijing and Hefei this March; its structure will be published and award ceremony will be staged during the 11th CHITEC this May. Chilean representatives and enterprises will come to attend it; an exchange meeting will take place between Chinese and Chilean enterprises after the award ceremony.
