The Beijing Week activities of the China Pavilion are held at Expo 2020 Dubai from October 13th to 15th, 2021. Beijing Week activities, closely following the theme of the China Pavilion “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind – Innovation and Opportunity”, has provided visitors from all over the world with a wonderful visual feast.
As an important activity of Beijing Week, the 28-episode documentary series of “Charming Beijing”, jointly produced by Information Office of Beijing Municipality and Beijing Radio Television Station, is launched today, and will be broadcast on Al-Aan TV in the UAE during Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as on local mainstream TV stations and social media channels, to present to people in the UAE and neighboring Arab countries China’s innovations in technology, information and communication, promote the image of Beijing as capital, and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and to well tell the story of China and show Beijing’s culture. The high-quality “Charming Beijing” documentary has gradually established its reputation and brand overseas after continuous broadcast in Germany, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia, blazed an path to effective communication through cooperation between Chinese and foreign mainstream media, created an international atmosphere of public opinion featuring cooperation, inclusiveness, mutual learning, and win-win results in countries along Belt and Road, and established an interconnected “circle of friends” for media in those countries while adding brilliance to the Expo.
“Charming Beijing” documentary is composed of a number of themed series. “Take off” series introduces the innovative technologies applied in Beijing Daxing International Airport, to show the world the wisdom and strength of Chinese builders, and highlight China’s economic take-off and the image of China as a big country. “Zhongguancun” series tells the story of painstaking efforts made by enterprises in Beijing Zhongguancun in starting up and developing business over the 40 years of reform and opening up, as well as the story of Zhongguancun’s development and rise to a world-renowned center of scientific and technological innovation, to convey to the world China’s capability in innovation and intelligent manufacturing, and the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, showcase Beijing’s cultural soft power, and to promote the image of Beijing. “City for Double Olympics” series is rich and colorful, introducing Beijing, the first city to host both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics, through a number of interesting stories, to show the Olympic dreams in the eyes of ordinary people. “Water Cube Blending Ice and Water” tells the magical transformation of the “Water Cube” into the “Ice Cube”, becoming the world’s first stadium that can hold ice and water sports at the same time by setting up curling track on the swimming pool. “A Young Man Who Dreams of the Winter Olympics” tells the story of a 15-year-old skiing boy who has worked hard step by step towards his goal for the Beijing Winter Olympics.
During Beijing Week, the China Pavilion also has broadcasted promotional videos on planning and construction of the Integrated National Demonstration Zone for Opening Up the Services Sector and the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Beijing intangible cultural heritage projects, scientific and technological innovation, digital art exhibition works, etc. Tourists from all over the world have appreciated the lovely images of the mascots of the Beijing Winter Olympics called “Bingdundun” and “Xuerongrong”, and the reconstruction and reuse of Beijing Shougang Park; entered the world of China’s famous intangible cultural heritage such as Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera, Tai Chi, Tongrentang and handicrafts; and enjoyed outstanding works of Asian Digital Art Exhibitions such as “Urban Memory”, “Seeing the Mountains”, and “Spirit of Mountains and Rivers”. The application of such modern technologies as 3D scanning, virtual reality, and immersive sound let the audience interact with technology and feel the beauty of Chinese art. The Beijing Week activities showcase the ancient capital charm and modern characteristics of Beijing as a famous city of history and culture from multiple perspectives and levels, and its development achievements in science and technology, culture, and tourism, demonstrate the green concept of the Beijing Winter Olympics, communicate to visitors Beijing’s investment environment, and facilitate the development of an open economy in Beijing.
Postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Expo 2020 is slated to be held from Oct. 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, in the United Arab Emirates, featuring Connecting Minds, Creating the Future as its theme. It is the first World Expo held in the Middle East, participated by a total of 192 countries. As COVID-19 continues to spread around the world, the success of Expo 2020 Dubai will provide new impetus for the international community to stay united and cooperate with each other for overcoming difficulties together, serve as a platform of connection, communication and cooperation for mankind, and deliver to the world a message of compatibility and inclusiveness, common development, and peace and prosperity.
The China Pavilion, covering an area of 4,636 square meters, is one of the largest pavilions in this Expo. Themed “Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind – Innovation and Opportunity”, the China Pavilion showcases China’s achievements in different fields from the perspectives of “common dream”, “common earth”, “common home” and “common future”, to demonstrate China’s achievements in scientific and technological innovation, convey China’s development concepts, and to promote international exchanges and cooperation.
